What Year Is This???

"When the minority children got in the pool all of the Caucasian children immediately exited the pool," Horace Gibson, parent of a day camp child, wrote in an email. "The pool attendants came and told the black children that they did not allow minorities in the club and needed the children to leave immediately."

I saw this story. Fucking crazy. The owner looked pissed off that someone would come along to question his ban of (black) school children.

The reason? Because he knew if he admitted he did it to keep the revenue from his racist regulars, his business would be wrecked.

I hope his business gets wrecked regardless.

This is why I always get queasy whenever I hear the platitude, "I just don't see race." If you don't, get your eyes examined.

I understand that race per se is very much a social construct, but until the day we actually treat each other as one human race (and that's a long time coming), it's important to acknowledge race, and racism as it very much exists today- and then go beyond it...
