Brian Rose- Berlin In From The Cold

The Lost Border by Brian Rose is one of my favorite photo books of all time. He has a new book out via Blurb called Berlin In From The Cold. The bad news is that it costs $200- the very good news is that you can view all 200 photos right online!

Brian Rose doing a blurb book! In one way it makes me feel good and legit because someone of his standing is using the service and I'm pleased with it and have as you know used it, but, I don't know I just think he should have "proper" publishers banging on his door. Love his work Berlin, Holland and NY featured him way back in 2007 when I was just starting out with this blogging lark...... Hope you are well by the way.

Yeah, you'd think after having published a book the likes of The Lost Border (of which practically every single photograph is exceptional in its own right)... No explaining taste is there?

Never really see him floating round the blogging "hierarchy" it's so fucking fickle photography, worse I think than the other arts, maybe the instant nature. I dont know, It seems that say painters have a longer shelf life. Maybe oil lasts longer than film.......

When I was (considerably) younger, way before digital or the internets (and the only thing instant was Folgers and Polaroid), and actually met the occasional photographer, artist or political activist- I was astonished to find how many were, in fact, assholes. Real life, big as can be, full of themselves assholes (as I'm sure more than one thought the same of me).

Somewhere along the way I learned to separate the person from the work, and just appreciate the latter, for whatever its worth. Though I still like to hold out hope for some, Brian Rose being one (I'm sure he'd be relieved to hear it).

That said, I think it's inevitable that the photography you grow up with (just like the music) is the stuff that most influences and effects one.
