That's A Fact, Jack!

To say that Julian Assange better watch his back is the understatement of the decade, if not the century. This guy puts his very life on the line to get the truth out- and how many people give a flying...? With Wikileaks soon to be latest release of The Embassy Files, he's gonna have a lot more to worry about than a smear campaign and a lawsuit.

UPDATE: The job of the media is not to protect the powerful from embarrassment...

Julian Assange is a megalomaniac who believes he is going to fundamentally change society.

Yes, a welcomed change from the megalomaniacs who bring us war, fear, economic enslavement, and environmental degradation.

Or were you simply commenting on how your definition also applies to the Christ?

The only thing he's going to change is the degree of secrecy in governments. I saw an interview with a retired diplomat whose only surprise at the recent leaks was that today's diplomatic core had gotten sloppy in their reporting. When he was involved the general rule was to not record anything that you would not feel comfortable defending if it were published in a major newspaper. A lot of effort will be expended finding and prosecuting traitors and it will just push secret procedures further underground. I find people like Assange, and those who folow him, to be extremely naive. I'm an aetheist so I can't comment on Christ.

The Guardian headline has it spot on. And last I heard, anyone can comment on anything for Chrissakes...

We all know the media is completely trustworthy since they don't make any money. In addition journalists have no ego's nor ambition for advancement and fame. Their only desire in life is to make the world a wonderful, safe place for every living thing to prosper.

As former assistant secretary of state James Rubin said of Wikileaks "these people don't know anything about the how the world really works". All that's going to happen is that security will tighten and decisions will become even more secretive. Julian Assange should watch his back. He's chosen to attack the US directly and to do as much damage as possible, so it's to be expected that he'll be targetted. I think he enjoys the fame he gets from it. It certainly seems to be getting him the chicks. He appears to be banging them left, right and center.

You keeping count there, Gerald? You're gettin' kinda creepy guy...

I'm not the one being accused of rape.

Stan B. said...

No, you're not the one risking retaliation of every possible stripe for embarrassing a major super power either, are ya Gerald?

Unless you got inside info on his sexual habits (which has absolute zero to do with his activism), do I really have to connect the dots here? I'm open to all kinds of commentary-- long as it's on an adult level...

Calm down Stan B. I was commenting on his own words that the women consented to have sex with him. As for being 'adult' I find that on extremely biased sites like this that you only demand that when it suits you.

But I am glad that you admit that Wikileaks is only there to 'embarass' the US (I'm not an American BTW). It serves no other purpose.

Have a look at this story. It's bascially what I said would happen.

I'm sure that all activists, such as yourself, have been expecting a groundswell of dissent in the US that would overthrow the current western system of government.

I don't know if you're being facetious here or not. I long (long) ago gave up any such hope.

Perhaps I am being a bit facetious, but having lived for most of my life in a city renowned for activism I tend to view them as being completely unrealistic, and coincidentally just as power hungry as those they oppose. Even though I agree with some of the arguments, I would never want them to have any power.

Yeah, thank god the "We make our own reality" crew isn't delusional- in the least.
