Dear COLORS,

Been more or less a regular buyer of your fine magazine since the early '90s. But at $17 for your most recent issue, I can't even contemplate buying your magazine when it costs more than what I make an hour. All the fancy inserts and windows in #86 look... fine, but you should really consider whether you wish to publish a magazine the public can afford, or a limited edition art publication for an elite few.

Sincerely,
Stan Banos

Dear Stan,
this is Cosimo Bizzarri, executive editor of COLORS.

It's true. In the past year we did increase our cover price. This is part of an overall strategy destined to improve our distribution network, so that the magazine can reach as many people as possible, in as many places in the world as possible.

On the other hand, we hadn't increased our cover price in years, and the new price matches those of equivalent art and design publications. We are in a market, and if we want to survive, and keep doing a good job, we need to play with the market rules, especially in such difficult times for the magazine industry.

We are twice as sorry to see you go, since you are a long time reader of COLORS. Just so you know, at the moment all the content of each issue can be read on colorsmagazine.com and downloaded on the iPad for free.

Please, feel free to get in touch at colors@colorsmagazine.com for further questions,

cheers,
Cosimo

Cosimo- Thank you, for your quick response... something quite rare these days. I was hoping that you could keep costs down with less "frills" (as noted in your last issue). I hope you are able to keep your fine magazine going at whatever cost, although as stated, the current cost (2X!) makes it quite prohibitive for me.

And thank you for putting the content online...
Best,
Stan
