You can argue all you want about whether photojournalism and/or documentary film making still have the power to change anything, anything at all. Meanwhile, those on the front line will continue to get the job done and then hopefully proceed to somehow coax the best from humanity.The makers of The Cove have already succeeded in stopping the Japanese from feeding their children tainted dolphin meat, and now pray the movie's release can save the dolphins themselves...

Stopped the Japanese from feeding their children dolphin meat? Was that a common thing to begin with? If so, how was it stopped? The government has simply put out a few mercury warnings for pregnant women.
That movie has had no impact in Japan that I have seen other than a few articles about it and most of those in English in the foreign press.
That "roundup" is not a well-known event in Japan. Perhaps that film may change things---especially with a new party to take over the government soon but I would not hold my breath. It is a very, very minor issue here.
It was common in that town to feed dolphin meat to its school children. Because of the film, that has stopped. The two town officials responsible for doing the right thing and banning it have since found it necessary to leave town (it's in the film)...
