Where were the parents? All firearms should have trigger locks on them unless they are being used. Plain and simple. The gun is not the issue, it's the lousy parenting that is the root cause of this horrible event. In my opinion it was not an accident. The parents should be charged with manslaughter.
Agreed. So how do we prevent this? The NRA's simple minded, one note mantra of more, more and more guns clearly does not begin to address this very real and ongoing horror- amongst others. Regulation (we would still be driving beltless without it) is crucial here, particularly where children are involved. There are hundreds if not thousands of these preventable "accidents" out there waiting to happen. We can turn a blind eye as the NRA urges us to, or we can take simple, common sense precautions through legislation and personal practice to ensure these events are much less likely to happen. Our politicians have been bought off, do we as a society care enough to make it happen?
