Flickr My Ass

Well, it's been a fun weekend dealing with my friend Flickr. First, I couldn't sign in, time after time after time. Emails, help forum, blah, blah, blah. Finally figured a run around so I could avoid the blank screen and get into my own account, just so I could... pay them! So I hit the pay button and... the second blank screen! Emails, help forum, blah, blah, blah.

Finally figured the second run around, and finally paid. Now I have to wait for their backlog to clear from all the other thousands having the same problems so they can accept me again into their fold.

You'd think they would make some attempt to fix this, since we pay them, rather than telling us to work it out ourselves and fix it for them. Somehow, I don't remember doing all this when service was... free.

I cancelled my flickr account due to pilfering. They do nothing to protect your images. Someday you will find one of your flickr images being used in a book or magazine with no acknowledgement and naturally no compensation.

I wonder who REALLY owns flickr? I just found out recently that one company owns eBay, Craigslist, Kijiji and PayPal.

If some media holding company owned flickr or had a majority share then just think of all the images they could scam for their publications.

Other than Yahoo, not aware of any other parentage linked to Flickr, but Getty has some kinda contract with the latter that you can sign, and if they like a certain image they'll use it and pay you a miserable pittance for which you should be ever thankful for- and if I understood the contract correctly... they can then lay claim to any "similar" images!!!

Yeah, like anyone else, I too fret about having images stolen. I just came to the conclusion straight off that if you put anything anywhere on the net- it can be taken. That said... no doubt posting them on Flickr only makes it easier. For all practical purposes, it primarily serves as my "website" since I only post my keepers (at low res).

And no doubt, I will give it my living, dying all to make whomever's life as miserable as possible should they ever mess with the goods. Far as I'm concerned, if people can do whatever they feel like with your property, I'm more than happy to return the favor in every conceivable way I know how.
